Communiqué re 2009 Midwinters, 2009 RIPS Regatta, and IMCA Class Rules adopted by all Fleets

Dear fellow racer: 
 
Midwinter's Update:
 
Fleet Three (California) reports that they will have about 18 boats on the line (including the Team Wicked charter boat from Vancouver) for the Midwinter's on February 21 and 22. A second charter boat can be made available if any other out of town competitors wish to attend. Contact Mike or Denise George at mgmarine@ca.rr.com or 1-310-650-8913.
 
RIPS Update:
 
11 M242's have registered for the RIPS Regatta August 15-19, of which 3 are from Sylvan Lake in Alberta, 1 from Vancouver, and the rest from the Island. There are only 9 slots left in this popular 45 boat (maximum) regatta. See this link here for more info on the regatta and attendees.
 
IMCA Rules Update:
 
At the recent Fleet One (Vancouver) AGM, the IMCA Rules in effect January 1st were presented and discussed, and as a result no local Fleet variances were proposed at the meeting.
 
Subsequently, Fleet Two (Vancouver Island) also engaged in discussion regarding the IMCA Rules, and decided to adopt them with no local variances either.
 
Fleet Three (California) has also adopted the IMCA Class Rules without any variances.
 
Competitors are reminded that the following Rules are still being finalized:

  1. Section 3.1 and Appendix B – keel and rudder specifications (note that Rule 3.1.8 re keel position has been finalized)

  2. Section 3.7.2.2 & 3.7.3 – positioning of additional fixed items that are included in the boat weight, and positioning of corrector weights

Competitors are reminded that their respective Fleet Rules will govern the sections above until such time as IMCA can issue replacement Rules in early 2009.
 
The Class Rules in effect January 1, 2009 are available for review and commentary by competitors here. There is also a link to the latest rules on the sidebar.

Further communiqués will be issued as each major remaining Rule set is finalized.
 
The next IMCA meeting will be in February 2009.
